IFS therapy

This is an approach that involves ‘memory reconsolidation’ which is a scientifically validated approach to helping to resolve trauma and negative emotions.

In IFS the therapist assists the client to examine their presenting life issue by looking to the body and seeing what the body has to tell us. IFS suggests that each of us is not a single mind but rather we are made up of multiple parts-all of which are eager to help us but often their methods can cause us problems. ~for example we may have a part that wants to help us avoid feeling pain by numbing out our minds. This part is not a bad part -it is doing its very best for you and doesnt have another strategy. So the clients task is to persuade the protective part to just step back a little and allow the client to be able to find out what is is that is underneath the pain they are feeling. The child is then assisted to unburden their wounds and be witnessed by their Self (the untouched calm, curious, confident and compassionate part) which assists the child to feel happier. From there the client may be assisted to ‘retrieve’ the child by asking them where they might want to live within the client’s body and finally the child can fill up the vacant space left by the burdons with qualities they feel they may be missing such as joy, calmness and fun.

It is a very effective and accessible therapy which can actually be enjoyable if that should even be possible when exploring our inner world.

Each session lasts around 1 hr and sometimes a little longer.
